Triple Crown Tournament Announced
Lakewood, WA – The Lakewood Croquet Club (LCC) announced a special tournament in a press release this morning. The tournament, billed as the Triple Crown, will determine the number one seed for the 1998 Champions Cup match coming up in August. What does it mean to be the number one seed? Nothing, really, but it gives us something else to fight over.
The Triple Crown tournament will consist of three separate matches, held in three locations, every three weeks. At the time of the press release, the first event of the Triple Crown had yet to be finalized, but an announcement is expected within the next forty-eight hours.
Competitors standings in the Triple Crown matches will be kept, and points will be awarded for the place of finish. These points will then be compiled for all three events, and the Club member with the highest point total will be deemed the number one seed in the Champions Cup in August.
Point awards for the events will depend on the number of competitors playing in each match. For example, if the first of the three Triple Crown matches features seven players, the first place finisher will receive seven points in the Triple Crown standings (along with the standard three points in the Season Standings), second place will receive six points, down to one point for the seventh place finisher.
More information is expected concerning the first Triple Crown event in the coming days. We will keep you posted as further information is released.
