Johnston Addresses Lakewood Croquet Club About Season Ahead
LAKEWOOD, WA – Lakewood Croquet Club President Brian S. Johnston III recently released the following “State of the Club” address in previewing the upcoming 2000 LCC Season:
Attn: Members of the Lakewood Croquet Club
Re: Presidents CupDear Esteemed Members and Guests:
Let me begin by thanking all of you for your participation in the Lakewood Croquet Club. Your dedication to our sport has made the Lakewood Croquet Club the most prestigious organization in all of croquet. Comprised of such high-class individuals, the Lakewood Croquet Club has set the trend of how all croquet should be played. For your devoted service in the Lakewood Croquet Club, you have my gratitude.
As seasons change, soon the rich grassy fields of parks, playgrounds, and back yards will again beckon the world’s top athletes to compete for fame and glory. As we enter the spring of a new millennium, there promises to be even more spectacular displays of triumph and defeat. As in the past, this year will be comprise of the major tournaments such as the Annual Gary Coleman Memorial Cup and of course the coveted Championship Cup.
However, there will be some new things this year as well. This year the Championship Cup will be held in Philadelphia, the foundation of modern western civilization. Also new this year I am introducing a third grand tournament, The President’s Cup. This tournament will consist of a match play over a shortened and more simplified course. An all-play match will determine placement seeding for the tournament the day prior. And true to its name, The President’s Cup will be played to determine who will reside as President of the Lakewood Croquet Club. Indeed we have much to look forward to…
Yours Truly,
Brian S. Johnston III
President of the Lakewood Croquet Club
