NEW YORK, NY – Lakewood Croquet Club Independent Counsel Lin Cherry announced recently that Investigation 2000 has concluded and a ruling will be handed down concerning the future of Jeff Gepner and LCC Champion Kevin Sutton on July 1.

“After two long months, I am pleased to say that Investigation 2000 has finally drawn to a conclusion,” stated Cherry during a recent press conference. “I have overseen this entire process and have personally reviewed hundreds of pages of testimony and evidence. I am fully prepared to render my decision on this matter in one week, on July 1st.”

LCC President Brian S. Johnston III, also on hand at the press conference, reitterated the organization’s support for Cherry’s verdict.

“Ms. Cherry has done an outstanding job of running this entire investigative process and any decision made by her will be official and it will be binding,” proclaimed Johnston. “The LCC Board has granted disciplinary power to the Independent Counsel, so whatever decision she renders will stand. As LCC President, I will see to it that Sutton and Gepner get what’s coming to them.”

Cherry, named to the position of Independent Counsel by President Johnston last month, has headed up what has become the most extensive and costly investigation in Lakewood Croquet Club history. Investigation 2000 was launched in late April following an anonymous tip-off that last year’s Champions Cup winner Kevin Sutton may have placed wagers on the Cup and that former two-time Champions Cup winner Jeff Gepner may have active ties to the Communist Party.

Both Sutton and Gepner were quick to deny all charges, but Johnston barreled forward, with the initial content of the LCC Board of Directors, launching the investigation. Since that time, Independent Counsel Cherry and her staff have exhaustively combed the backgrounds of both Sutton and Gepner. Most recently, Cherry completed a series of interviews with character witnesses for the accused. Reports state that she is now in the process of reviewing those statements made by the witnesses.
