SEATTLE, WA - The Lakewood Croquet Club (LCC) are the subjects of a cover story and feature in the Northwest Outdoors/Getaways section of today’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The article, penned by writer Amanda Castleman and featuring a number of photos by the P-I’s Paul Joseph Brown, features extensive coverage of last month’s Gary Coleman Memorial Team Challenge, as well as previewing the upcoming 2005 Champions Cup, set for July 16th at Gas Works Park in Seattle.
Here’s a teaser excerpt:
Andy Cooper is having a rough match. First his yellow ball ricochets and pops high near his jaw. The Chehalis tool salesman jerks his head back, avoiding a nasty bruise. Not half an hour later, a finger-size chip flakes off his wooden mallet. “Every time a mallet breaks, an angel catches fire,” UW drama and literature student Michelle Burce jokes. “That’s the lore of the league.”
