2005 PA Open Announced for August 6th in Perkasie, PA
PERKASIE, PA – The Lakewood Croquet Club today announced the return of the annual Pennsylvania Open event to the William J. Cherry Croquet Grounds in Bucks County, PA. The event, scheduled for Saturday, August 6th with a 1pm EST start time, will be the sixth annual edition of extreme croquet’s premiere East Coast championship.
The Pennsylvania Open has made headlines in recent years for an notable escalation in cheating and other underhanded tactics. The 2002 edition ended in a near wrestling match between winners Amy Egan and “Queen of Croquet” Lin Cherry and runner up “Rat Boy” Brian Egan. While cheating was dampened slightly at the 2003 Open (thanks in part to heavy rain and thunderstorms that washed out much of the afternoon), the questionable tactics and accusations of cheating were back in full force at the fifth annual PA Open last August. LCC Officials have been in discussions to help clean up the event, but no formal announcements are expected until after the Board of Directors meet July 9th in Washington.
