The Lakewood Croquet Club calendar features some of the biggest annual events in extreme croquet, making up what is known as the club’s Triple Crown; the Gary Coleman Memorial Team Challenge, held each summer to determine the LCC Doubles Champions; the Pennsylvania Open, held each August to crown the Commonwealth (of Pennsylvania) Champion, and the Champions Cup, the most prestigious event in extreme croquet, is held annually to determine the Lakewood Croquet Club Champion.
LCC events are historic not only for the breadth of the Club’s competitors or their enduring history (the youngest of Triple Crown events, the PA Open, is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2004), but are recognized the world over and are competed for by some of the world’s best (non-LCC) players. Over the past decade, Lakewood Croquet Club Championships have been battled for by the likes of the University of Washington Honors Croquet League, the San Francisco Extreme Croquet Club, the Washington Association for Correct Croquet with Order and Sanity, the Commencement Bay Croquet Club, and more.
In addition to the Triple Crown events, the Lakewood Croquet Club calendar has also featured a number of smaller, one-time events, including the Dead Grass and Dog Shit (DGDS) Classic (2003), the Independence Invitational (2000), the Huningdon Valley Classic (2000), the Showdown at Shipbottom (1999), the Triple Crown Tournament (1998), and the Triple Stakes Trifectas of Death I, II and III. In the coming months, we will begin adding these and other historic LCC events to our online archives. Check back for future updates.
