The footage was taken from the original Evening feature on the LCC and extreme croquet, shot at Champions Cup X in July 2005 and first aired in the spring of 2006. That original segment still appears as a popular encore segment on Evening and has also been featured on KONG TV’s Northwest Sports Report.

SEATTLE, WA – The Lakewood Croquet Club (LCC) are the subjects of a cover story and feature in the Northwest Outdoors/Getaways section of today’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The article, penned by writer Amanda Castleman and featuring a number of photos by the P-I’s Paul Joseph Brown, features extensive coverage of last month’s Gary Coleman Memorial Team Challenge, as well as previewing the upcoming 2005 Champions Cup, set for July 16th at Gas Works Park in Seattle.

Here’s a teaser excerpt:

Andy Cooper is having a rough match. First his yellow ball ricochets and pops high near his jaw. The Chehalis tool salesman jerks his head back, avoiding a nasty bruise. Not half an hour later, a finger-size chip flakes off his wooden mallet. “Every time a mallet breaks, an angel catches fire,” UW drama and literature student Michelle Burce jokes. “That’s the lore of the league.”

NEW YORK, NY – The sport of extreme croquet continues to make waves, as the Lakewood Croquet Club website has been featured in the October, 1999 issue of Yahoo! Internet Life magazine, on newsstands now.

The LCC site is featured in the Pretty Strange column (p. 176). The column’s author, Scott Alexander, sums up our sport best with the following: “Bungee jumping…yawn. skydiving…ho-hum. if you think extreme sports have become less than pulse-pounding, then you haven’t tried the latest raw adrenaline booster: extreme croquet.”

This most-recent recognition of our off-the-wall site has led to increased interest in the Lakewood Croquet Club, as well as some of our fellow extreme croquet clubs. Coupled with the recent introduction of the first extreme croquet equipment by Oakley Woods Croquet, the sport of extreme croquet is basking in the glow of a newfound renaissance.

The task now will be to maintain this increased interest in the sport through the winter months, until the start of the 2000 season early next year.

BRIGHTON, Ontario – Oakley Woods Croquet, manufacturers of fine croquet equipment for the traditional six- and nine-wicket games, recently introduced the first official pieces of equipment designed specifically for the game of extreme croquet. A specially designed low-cost eXtreme mallet is currently available, with a line of specially-designed balls due early next year.

Don Oakley of Oakley Woods Croquet, announced the new line of extreme equipment in a recent email to a number of clubs:

To all eXtreme Croquet players,

After visiting your website and reading the news contained on the front page, I felt obligated to provide you with a follow up story.

It is with thanks to the eXtreme players who have contacted Oakley Woods Croquet (www.oakleywoods.com) that we have recently added a new croquet mallet to our product line. Far from the “Toys-R-Us” quality, is our “EXTREME” croquet mallet. It features a solid ash shaft 36″ tall with an octagonal upper section for a sure grip, and a head made from a solid billet of virgin white high density polyethylene. The head is 2-1/2″ in diameter and measures 8-1/2″ face to face. This mallet designed and priced for the budget-conscious and serious croquet player. So as not to taint this message with the issue of money, you can learn more about it and our other products at our website or go directly to the mallet page at www.oakleywoods.com/mallets.htm

With respect to your balls, we have noted the problem of broken balls with the more aggressive players. We have replacement balls of two types, the 3-5/8″ wood composite ball you are probably familiar with as well as a solid plastic ball of slightly smaller size at 3-5/16″. We are currently developing a solid plastic ball of the larger size which should be ready for the 2000 playing season. Stay tuned for more information on that.

If there is any way in which Oakley Woods Croquet can be of further assistance to the eXtreme Croquet players, we are all ears.

Sincerely,

Don Oakley
